York supervisors are in the process of narrowing down candidates for the County Administrator seat that has been vacant since the death of James “Mac” McReynolds.
The board met Monday night in a closed session to go over candidates found by Colin Baenziger & Associates, a firm hired in December to perform a nationwide executive search for applicants.
Chairman Tom Shepperd said the firm received 112 applications, which he said is an above-average amount for this type of search.
During the closed session, the board whittled down the applications and are sitting on “about eight” hopefuls, who will likely be subject to a background check, Shepperd said.
“I think it’s a real positive statement that people see York County as a nice place to work,” Shepperd said.
York County paid $23,500 for the services of Colin Baenziger & Associates, which include up to six background searches on candidates.
Mark Carter has been serving as interim county administrator since McReynolds, York County’s longest serving administrator, died in October.
Shepperd said the Board of Supervisors is still on track to pick a new administrator in April.
