A 20-year-old man accused of helping in the attempted robbery that led to the death of 17-year-old Tabb High School student Dylan Peters has been charged with two more felonies for a separate robbery.
Authorities say 20-year-old Tevin DeSean Lambert robbed a juvenile in the 100 block of Cavalier Drive off Burts Road near the York County Sports Complex on Sept. 8.
Lambert was served with warrants Friday at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. The warrants charge him with felony armed robbery and felony use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the Sept. 8 incident.
Lambert is also accused of loaning a backpack to Peters’ accused killer, who police say planned to use it to store drugs and money taken from Peters on Jan. 27.
Lambert has been in custody since Feb. 4, when York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him in his Newport News home and charged him with conspiracy to commit robbery.
Authorities say he was with a 17-year-old — who is facing second-degree murder, felony attempted robbery and felony use of a firearm in the commission of a felony — on Jan. 27 and helped arrange a meeting to purchase marijuana from Peters.
Court documents show how Lambert and the teen shooting suspect were using Lambert’s cell phone to send texts to Peters while they were at a friend’s house in Peters’ neighborhood.
Authorities said the shooter left the friend’s house in the afternoon of Jan. 27 and went to Peters’ home on Cattail Lane in the Whispering Winds subdivision to rob him of drugs and money.
After a brief discussion on Peters’ porch, Peters retreated into the house, and he fired five shots into the door, police said.
The shots went through the door and hit Peters in the chest, shoulder, leg and hand, authorities said.
Peters was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where he was pronounced dead.
YPSO deputies arrested the suspected shooter at the Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 29. He is currently being held in the Juvenile Merrimac Detention Center and will be tried as an adult per the Virginia state code, York-Poquoson Commonwealth’s Attorney Ben Hahn said.
Lambert will appear for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. April 16 in York Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
The 17-year-old shooting suspect, whose name is not being released at this time, is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing at 1:30 p.m. April 23 in York Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
If a judge finds there is probable cause, the charges will be certified to a grand jury.
