A new face is joining the City of Williamsburg’s staff.

In a news release issued Thursday, the city announced Lee Ann Hartmann as the city’s next communications specialist. Her appointment was effective Jan. 26.

Hartmann comes to Williamsburg with nearly 30 years of experience in local government. She succeeds Kate Hoving, who resigned from the position in September.

Before joining Williamsburg’s city staff, Hartmann worked in Newport News as the public information specialist for the city’s departments of utilities and engineering, and served on its emergency operations center/public information team.

She also worked for eight years with the Virginia Peninsula Tourism and Conference Bureau.

Hartmann received a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from Old Dominion University.

Her responsibilities with the city will include handling public and media relations, managing citizen engagement and community relations, operating the city’s social media presence and serving as Williamsburg’s emergency public information officer.

“Lee Ann is a proven, effective communicator with considerable experience in local government and tourism marketing,” City Manager Jack Tuttle said in a statement. “We are very happy to have her as part of our communication team.”

Hartmann can be reached in the office of the communications specialist at the Williamsburg Municipal Building by telephone at 220-6197.
