A teenager is in custody in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Dylan Peters.
The 17-year-old suspect, whose name cannot be released due to his age, was arrested late Wednesday night at the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Dennis Ivey with YPSO said in a news release.
The suspect has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He is currently being held at the Juvenile Merrimac Detention Center. His detention hearing is set for 9 a.m. Feb. 5.
Peters was shot multiple times in the 200 block of Cattail Lane in the Whispering Winds subdivision in the Tabb area of York County on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Deputies responded to a call of a shooting at around 3:40 p.m. and found Peters, a Tabb High School student, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a home.
Peters was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Deputy Mike Russell with YPSO said.
The 17-year-old suspect fled the scene, leading authorities to search the area in the hours following the shooting.
Russell said it was not a random act of violence.
Peters’ death marks the third homicide in York County in the past six weeks.
