The James City County Police Department is now taking signups for two firearms safety classes next month, but guns must be left at home in a secure location.
The classes will be held Feb. 2 and 24. At each session, participants will learn about gun safety, handling and storage, according to a news release from the county.
The classes meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center on the 4600 block of Opportunity Way. To register for the class, call Master Officer Alan McDowell at 603-6026.
The police department pays for the class materials and gunlocks through grants from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project Childsafe.
