Investigators are looking for someone accused of breaking into a York County home then firing shots into the first-floor ceiling Sunday.

The owner of a home in the 100 block of Jotank Turn off Running Man Trail told deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office he woke to the sound of footsteps downstairs in his home at around 4 a.m. Sunday, a news release states.

The man proceeded to the top of the stairs to investigate and saw what appeared to be a short man wearing a dark-colored hoodie at the bottom of the stairs, said Lt. Dennis Ivey, a spokesperson with YPSO.

The suspect, who is believed to have entered the home by breaking the glass on the back door, allegedly shined a flashlight into the homeowner’s eyes then ran into the kitchen.

At that time, the homeowner heard two gunshots and noticed the hardwood floor behind him had “buckled up,” Ivey said.

The suspect then ran out of the house, the news release states. Nothing was taken from the home, Ivey said.

A woman was also in the house at the time, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on the incident or the suspect is asked to call the Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
