Residents in the Historic Triangle can place their Christmas trees at the curb for recycling this year.

The Christmas tree recycling service will run through York County the week of Jan. 5. County residents are asked to place their Christmas trees at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday.

Trees standing more than 7 feet tall should be cut in half, and no lights, tinsel or decorations can remain on the tree.

After the scheduled pickup week, citizens can get rid of their trees during bulk item pickup or by bringing them to the county’s Compost Facility at 145 Goodwin Neck Road.

The City of Williamsburg will offer Christmas tree recycling the first two Mondays of January. Citizens are asked to place their trees at the curb before 7 a.m. on Jan. 5 and Jan. 12.

James City County will accept Christmas trees at any of the three convenience centers from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31. County officials ask that all decorations and lights be removed from the trees before disposing of them.
