Three men and a juvenile are being sought for entering a home Saturday afternoon, beating a 58-year-old woman and taking off with firearms from the home, authorities said.

James City County Police responded to the 100 block of King William Drive off Olde Towne Road around 12:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a home invasion robbery, Deputy Chief Steve Rubino of the James City County Police Department said.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 16-year-old resident opened the door for a boy he knew after hearing a knock at the door, Rubino said.

Three men – described only as black – were in the front yard at the time. The 16-year-old let the boy inside, and the three men in the yard entered the house shortly after, Rubino said.

The three men began searching the home for guns and valuables, according to Rubino. Two men went upstairs into a bedroom and were going through jewelry when they were confronted by the 16-year-old’s stepmother.

The woman tried calling 911, but was stopped by one of the men, who allegedly put her in a headlock and began punching her repeatedly.

Rubino said she fought back, biting the suspect, but was knocked to the floor and kicked by him.

The four then ran from the residence, taking multiple firearms with them, Rubino said.

The stepmother was transported by ambulance to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital for treatment. Rubino said she suffered facial injuries and was still in the hospital around 4:50 p.m.

A search for the suspects is being conducted, Rubino said. Tracking dogs were used during the preliminary investigation, but that search has been suspended.

Rubino said he does not believe this incident is related to the shooting that occurred Friday a little after 8 p.m., in which police found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds had crashed a vehicle into the back of a home off Ironbound Road.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
