JCC Police Identify Gunshot Victim Who Crashed Into House

Police say a man who died of multiple gunshot wounds Friday night after crashing into the back of a house off Ironbound Road has been identified as 26-year-old James City County resident Tyler Anthony Cole.

James City County police received a call at 8:05 p.m. Friday for shots fired, Deputy Chief Steve Rubino of the James City County Police Department said.

Shortly after, police received a second call about a vehicle crashing into a residence.

Police responded to the 300 block of Carriage Road off Ironbound Square Park at about 8:12 p.m. and found a driver with multiple gunshot wounds had crashed into the back of a home. 

The homeowner, who was asleep at the time, was awakened by the sound of gunshots and the vehicle crashing into the home.

The home suffered minor damage, Rubino said.

The driver, later identified as Cole, was transported to Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Rubino said.

Newport News Police and Virginia State Police also responded to the scene with dogs to search the area for any possible suspects.

Just around 11:30 p.m. Rubino said the are remained an active crime scene. The area was cleared by 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
