The next round of Dancing with the Williamsburg Stars pits a husband and wife, two hospital heads and other prominent members of the community against each other to support local causes.
The sixth annual event, to be held in March, puts area leaders on stage to show off their best mamba, cha-cha or waltz. After training with professional ballroom dancers, they compete in front of an audience and panel of judges.
The 2015 stars are:
- Amanda Buckley, Local Voice Media, which is the parent company of 92.3 The Tide, 107.9 BachFM and WYDaily
- Carlyle Campbell, TowneBank
- Sue Gerdelman, William & Mary Board of Visitors
- Katy Henderson, Studio South
- Peter Henderson, Henderson Construction
- Kelly Ann Kelly, Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools
- David Masterson, Sentara
- Jim McCorry, Riverside
- Andre McLaughlin, James City County Police Department and Lafayette High School
- Jocelyn Oldham, Musician
- Tom Power, Fat Canary
- Beth Wigley, Peninsula Catholic High School
“2015 may be the biggest yet! The competitive twist is adding to the excitement, and we can’t wait to see how fan favorite votes are cast in response to that dynamic,” said Ken Johnston, event chair, in a news release. “We can’t thank the community enough for embracing this program, which has raised hundreds of thousands for charity.”
Through ticket sales and fundraising by competitors, Dancing with the Williamsburg Stars benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Virginia Peninsula and Literacy for Life.
Last year’s event drew nearly 700 guests and raised more than $80,000 for the two nonprofits.
The competition starts at 7 p.m. March 7 at Phi Beta Kappa Hall on the campus of the College of William and Mary. Tickets go on sale in January.
