Update 7:41 p.m.: The fatality in Saturday’s crash has been identified as Vicente Dolores Salinas-Avendano, a 40-year-old man from El Salvador.
Salinas-Avendano was a passenger in a 2007 Toyota Tacoma heading westbound on Interstate 64 in James City County when another vehicle cut the pickup off, causing the driver to veer into the left shoulder, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police.
The driver then lost control of the Tacoma, which continued off the road and struck several trees before overturning in the median. Salinas-Avendano, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the backseat of the truck, Anaya said. He died at the scene.
Three other people were in the truck, and they suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The backup, which stretched for 16 miles earlier Saturday, has cleared.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said troopers are currently working the crash, which happened around 10:57 a.m. west of mile marker 227, the Route 30 – Old Stage Road exit in James City County. State police didn’t have details about the accident or its victim.
As of 2:30 p.m. the westbound left lane is closed near the crash site and traffic was making its way using the right shoulder.
Westbound traffic had been detoured off the interstate onto Old Stage Road for just over two hours before the westbound left lane reopened.
A VDOT spokesman said all Richmond-bound traffic is encouraged to use Route 460.
