A 22-year-old James City County woman charged with child abuse after a cell phone video allegedly depicted her abusing her 2-year-old daughter will undergo a mental health evaluation.
Kimberly Michelle Hines was arrested July 21 after her boyfriend reported the alleged abuse to Child Protective Services.
James City County Police said the video shows Hines kicking her 2-year-old daughter off a toilet trainer and throwing a book, pillow and child’s toy at her while cursing repeatedly.
The mental health evaluation was requested by Hines’ attorney, Brandon Waltrip, at a Friday hearing in Williamsburg-James City County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, according to Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Kufro.
Once the results of the evaluation are returned, the court case will then resume.
The girl suffered minor injuries, including bruising and cuts, according to Deputy Chief Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department. The abuse allegedly occurred July 20 in the 100 block of Lafayette Boulevard in the Lafayette Village Apartments off Longhill Road in James City County.
Hines faces one felony count of child abuse and one misdemeanor count of domestic assault and battery.
