Del. Monty Mason, JCC Supervisor to Host Community Transit Meeting

Historic Triangle Sign USE1A James City County senior home is playing host to a community meeting about transportation in the Historic Triangle and how it connects to the greater Hampton Roads area.

Representatives from the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority and Hampton Roads Transit, along with Del. Monty Mason (D-Williamsburg) and James City County Supervisor John McGlennon (Roberts) will gather July 15 at Colonial Manor Senior Community at 8679 Pocahontas Trail.

The group will share current route information as well as future plans, before seeking input on improvements and how the transit system is used.

“I have been working with the two transit providers on the Virginia Peninsula to increase the efficiency for our citizens that rely on public transportation,” Mason said in a news release. “We must improve the ability of people in southern James City County to access the upper county and the Newport News/Hampton area. We are looking forward to finding and increasing efficiencies among the two systems which will benefit our citizens and area employers.”

WATA has begun looking into alternate routes, which could improve service to a wider area.

McGlennon said in a release a recent “discussion in Grove pointed to greater transit needs for residents.” He hopes improving bus service can connect “more workers to employers like Busch Gardens, the Walmart Distribution Center and Anheuser-Busch.”

The public meeting will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Manor Senior Community at 8679 Pocahontas Trail.
