Busch Gardens staff found a note threatening a bomb in the England section of the park Sunday afternoon, preventing anyone from entering or leaving the park, a fire official said.
Nothing suspicious was found, said Assistant Chief Bob Ryalls of the James City County Fire Department. Units from both the fire department and James City County Police Department conducted a complete search of the threatened section that ended at 5:30 p.m.
Fire Marshals remain on the scene to do some followup work on the incident, but that section of the park has been turned over to the park’s control.
Busch Gardens officials began evacuating the England village after an employee received information regarding the bomb threat around 3 p.m., said Kevin Crossett, a Busch Gardens spokesperson.
The note was found in a bathroom in the England section of the park, Ryalls said.
Both the England village and park entrance were closed as fire officials investigated the threat. The entrance was reopened after about 10 minutes, Crossett said, and the England village opened around 5:55 p.m.
“Guests entering or leaving the park are being escorted to an alternate park entrance,” Crossett said in an email to WYDaily.
The investigation is ongoing.
