A private tennis coach is accused of taking indecent liberties with one of his students starting when she was 14 years old, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
Gordon T. Hammersley, 31, was arrested and charged with seven felony counts of indecent liberties by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship.
The victim, now an adult, told investigators May 13 she and Hammersley had several sexual encounters between November 2009 and June 2010 when she was 14 and 15 years old. She said several of the incidents occurred in Hammersley’s vehicle while it was parked in York County.
Hammersley’s last known address was Willowood Drive in Yorktown. It is unknown at this time whether he is facing charges in other jurisdictions.
Lt. Dennis Ivey, spokesperson for YPSO, said the department did not whether Hammersley taught the sport through local tennis clubs, only that he offered lessons as a private instructor.
Kingsmill Resort confirmed Hammersley is a former tennis instructor with the club, but would not release the time frame of his employment.
YPSO is seeking the public’s help in determining whether there are more victims. Anyone with information for this case should contact Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
