A 19-year-old York County man was arrested Tuesday after deputies believe he stabbed his 40-year-old mother to death at a home in the Yorkshire Downs subdivision off Hampton Highway.

Deputies responded to a house on the 100 block of Ponsonby Drive around 1:20 p.m. for a 911 call, according to a news release from Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. He said the officers found Heather Perkins dead in a bedroom from apparent stab wounds. Her 19-year-old son, Ronnie Lavender Dovbish, was at the home when deputies arrived.

Both Dovbish and Perkins lived in the house. Ivey said nobody else was in the home at the time of the incident and there is no reason to believe anyone else was involved. He declined to provide details on the nature of the 911 call or about any possible motive behind the alleged killing.

Dovbish was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. He is being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
