Update 5:17 p.m. Anaya said the vehicle that crashed into the police vehicle was a 2000 Ford F-350 driven by 23-year-old Colleen Morse of Williamsburg. Morse has been charged with reckless driving.

A Williamsburg Police Officer was hospitalized Wednesday after another driver crashed into his marked Ford Explorer on Monticello Avenue in James City County.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police said the incident occurred at 12:54 p.m. on the bridge over Powhatan Creek. Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department said the officer slowed down to check out some vehicles that were pulled over on the side of the road when another vehicle struck the officer’s truck from the rear.
The officer was taken to a hospital after he experienced pain when trying to walk around. Riley said the officer is expected to return to duty.
No information on the driver or any charges is yet available as troopers from the Virginia State Police continue to work the crash, Anaya said.
Riley said the Williamsburg Police Department uses the Ford Explorer as its general purpose vehicle. He said the decision was made to go that route instead of the more commonly seen Dodge and Ford sedans as the Explorer offers more trunk space for storage and is more comfortable for prisoners.
