A unidentified suspect wanted in connection with the Oct. 2 abduction of an Isle of Wight County girl may have approached a York County girl on Nov. 12.
Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said a white male in a silver two-door vehicle resembling a Chevy Cavalier approached a York County girl on the 200 block of Skimino Road at about 3:15 p.m. Nov. 12. He tried to have the girl get in the car with him, but the girl refused. A parent then approached the vehicle, and the suspect drove away.
The juvenile told deputies the man in the car resembled the sketch of the man wanted in connection to the Isle of Wight County abduction. Ivey said the incident was not reported to police until Monday.
An 11-year-old girl was abducted from a school bus stop at about 8 a.m. Oct. 2 in Carrollton, a small community in Isle of Wight County. The suspect forced the victim into his vehicle and drove her to two different locations, where he sexually assaulted her. He then drove her back to the area where she was abducted and dropped her off.
A wanted poster from the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office identifies the suspect as a white male, possibly in his 40s or 50s. Freckles cover his entire face and body. He is about 5’8” and 175 pounds with short blonde hair and a thin beard strip from his temples down across his chin. He has bushy blond eyebrows, full lips, blue eyes and teeth that are slightly yellowed. He also speaks slowly.
The vehicle is described as a Chevy Cavalier from a model year between 1995 and 2001. It has a Virginia inspection sticker with a black and gray interior that is not cloth. There are manual windows and an automatic transmission in the car. The dashboard is cracked and has pieces missing.
There are three homemade clay sculptures in the car that appear to have been made by children. One is shaped like a star and painted with black stripes. The others are of an unknown shape and are green and pink.
The suspect wore glasses part of the time during the Oct. 2 assault. The suspect told the victim several things, including that he felt sorry for himself and did not want to tell his therapist what he had done, that his wife had undergone a similar experience when she was a child and that he was missing work that day.
“Authorities feel certain that the suspect was out of a usual routine [especially since he mentioned having a job] and so are asking for the public to consider anyone who may have strayed from a daily routine on the morning of October 2, the day of the abduction,” according to a statement from the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office.
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office joins the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and investigators from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the hunt for the unidentified suspect.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP (888-562-5887).
