This Week in Crime: Juvenile Breaks into Cars; Residential Burglary

Juvenile Charged with Swiping Cell Phone

A 17-year-old is facing a felony robbery charge in James City County after he allegedly grabbed an iPhone out of the hands of a 12-year-old girl.

Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department said the incident occurred at about 7 p.m. Oct. 18 on the 5100 block of Main Street in New Town. The phone is valued at $250 and it is unclear whether it has been returned to the victim.

Rubino said the 17-year-old asked the girl to use the phone. When she refused, he allegedly grabbed it from her.

Juvenile Arrested for Breaking Into Cars

A 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody after he allegedly rummaged through some vehicles and attempted to enter a house on Wimbledon Way in Baron Woods.

Rubino said the boy allegedly tried to enter a house on Wimbledon Way through its sliding glass door sometime on the night of Aug. 26 or the morning of Aug. 27. The attempted entry into the home set off an alarm. Nothing was taken.

The boy is also alleged to have rummaged through some vehicles including one on Lancaster Way, where he allegedly stole a multi-purpose tool resembling a Leatherman. Officers were able to recover a fingerprint from one of the vehicles that matched the boy, who already had his prints in the system.

He is facing one count of breaking and entering with the intent to commit larceny, one count of petty larceny and four counts of tampering with vehicles.

Police Investigate Residential Burglary on Huntington Drive

The James City County Police Department is investigating after someone broke into a home on Huntington Drive between 2 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

Entry was gained through a rear garage door. Rubino said a flat screen television, an Xbox and some other miscellaneous items were stolen.

Rubino said police have identified a suspect who is under investigation.

York County

Man Charged with Breaking Into Garage in Seaford, Stealing Items

A 37-year-old York County man is facing charges after he allegedly broke into a neighbor’s garage on Seaford Road and stole miscellaneous items.

Deputy Mike Russell of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said Peter D. Biles allegedly stole 10 pieces of hardwood floor panels valued at $25 each, a ladder valued at $35 and a chair valued at $10. During the theft, Biles is alleged to have damaged a screen valued at $15 and door trim valued at $95.

Biles is facing a felony larceny/theft third or subsequent offense charge, one count of trespassing and two counts of destruction of property.

He will appear in York-Poquoson District Court at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 4.
