A man is facing DUI charges after striking the Williamsburg Trolley with his Honda Element while William and Mary Police and York-Poquoson deputies search for stolen bikes and scooters.

Man Charged with DUI After Striking Williamsburg Trolley
A Williamsburg man is facing a felony DUI charge after he allegedly struck the Williamsburg Trolley near Merchants Square on Tuesday.
Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department said 60-year-old Clare Messler was trying to pass the trolley when he struck it with his Honda Element at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. Neither vehicle received serious damage and nobody was injured.
The accident happened where Richmond Road, Jamestown Road and S Boundary Street meet Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg. The area is also known as both College Corner and Confusion Corner. Traffic was backed up after the accident, though it cleared by 5 p.m., Riley said.
Messler is facing the DUI charge, as well one count of driving with an open container and one count of driving without a license.

Locked Bikes Stolen from Brown Hall
Seven bicycles were reported stolen from Brown Hall on North Boundary Street, with six of the reports coming Sept. 26.
William and Mary spokesperson Suzanne Seurattan said the incidents remain under investigation. The thefts come after eight bikes were reported stolen from Ludwell Apartments — seven of the eight thefts were reported to the William and Mary Police Department on Sept. 18. Three other bicycles were reported stolen elsewhere on campus between Sept. 23 and Sept. 30.

Deputies Seek Assistance Finding Stolen Honda Scooter
The York-Poqouson Sheriff’s Office has asked for the public’s help locating a scooter reported stolen from the Travel Lodge on Richmond Road.
The black and red 2013 Honda Metropolitan scooter was stolen sometime between 10:30 p.m. Oct. 1 and 1 a.m. Oct. 2. The scooter had damage on both the right and left side and a floorboard with black zip ties around it. There was no license plate on the scooter when it was stolen.
