After several break-ins at residences in the Tabb section of York County between Aug. 27 and Sept. 3, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is the public to help.
The suspects did not walk away from the scene of the crime with stolen items in three of the five burglaries reported in a news release from the sheriff’s office, though electronics were reported stolen during the other two incidents.
The burglars appear to be ringing doorbells to see if anyone responds before forcing entry or entering through an unlocked door.
Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said the incidents are being investigated as though they are linked, though he said there is always the possibility they are not. The incidents all occurred at residences near the point in Tabb where George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17), Hampton Highway and Victory Boulevard all meet.
The incidents are as follows:
- Aug. 27, Cranwood Court in the Woodlake Crossing subdivision: sometime between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., unknown people broke a window, unlocked the front door and entered a residence, where they stole n iPad. They went through several dresser and night stand drawers in the bedrooms, laying out jewelry they did not take.
- Sept. 2, Wallace Court in the Meadowlake Farms subdivision: After returning home from a weekend vacation, the homeowner noticed some items missing, including a flat screen television, a computer and other personal electronics. A gym bag and a cooler from the garage were also reported missing, and there were no signs of forced entry. A neighbor reported hearing a loud thud at about 2 a.m., however he or she could not tell where the noise came from. Two black males were seen in the area by a neighbor at about 3:15 a.m. Sept. 2.
- Sept. 3, Gardenville Drive in the Tabb Lakes subdivision: The homeowner was asleep when he or she heard a loud noise in their home at about 11:30 p.m. That person investigated and found the rear sliding glass door to their home was shattered, however nothing was taken.
- Sept. 3, Chanticlair Drive in the Finch Terrace subdivision in Coventry: The homeowner was asleep at about 11:15 p.m. when he or she awoke to a male pointing a flashlight in the homeowner’s face. The homeowner’s dog began barking and then chased the man from the home through the rear sliding door. Entry appears to have been achieved through the unlocked rear door. Nothing was taken, and nobody was hurt.
- Sept. 3, Militia Court in the Patriot Village subdivision: the homeowner heard their doorbell ring several times at about 11:20 p.m. He or she went upstairs after not hearing anyone, however a short time later, a rear window on the home was broken. The homeowner called out, and whoever broke the window fled. Nothing was taken. A greenish gray sport utility vehicle resembling a Nissan Pathfinder was seen in the area.
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office encourages all citizens to lock their doors and cars. Don’t leave any purses, wallets or electronics in a vehicle overnight. In the news release, Sheriff J.D. “Danny” Diggs encouraged all citizens to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity.
“No matter how insignificant the information or incident may seem, it may be the break we need to get these criminals off the street,” the release read.
