Children now have another reason to visit Colonial Williamsburg’s Revolutionary City: toys.

The William Pitt Store opened for business Friday to sell an array of children’s toys, books, games and apparel.

Before reopening as The William Pitt Store on Friday, the building operated as The Davidson Shop. In 1737, Robert Davidson, who once served as mayor of Williamsburg, operated an apothecary on the same lot as the store.

William Pitt had a store on the same property during the Revolutionary period, selling silk, women’s accessories, hardware, furniture, spices, swords and small arms. The new store is named after Pitt to align with Colonial Williamsburg’s focus on the Revolution.

The store, located on the northwest corner of Duke of Gloucester and Botetourt streets, is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sundays.
