York-Poquoson Sheriff J.D. “Danny” Diggs has asked for the public’s help to find a 13-year-old runaway whose stepfather was killed in Afghanistan shortly after she left home.
Le-Shanna M. Wortham ran away from her York County home Saturday at around 9:30 a.m., said Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. She is a 5’5” black female who weighs 117 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes and medium to light color skin.
Her stepfather was Eric Lawson, a member of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Eustis who was killed in Afghanistan along with another soldier after enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
Wortham’s mother requested the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s office notify the public of the runaway. Ivey said it is unclear whether Wortham knows what happened to her stepfather.
“We are hoping to bring this family back together during this difficult time, so we are requesting help from the public to help us locate Le-Shanna,” Diggs said in a news release.
Anyone with information on Wortham’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP (888-562-5887).
