A 13-year-old James City County boy is facing a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly announced over the school’s handheld radio system that he was going to bomb the school and do bodily harm to the principal.
District Chief Bob Ryalls of the James City County Fire Department said that around 2:15 p.m. on May 29, police and fire units responded to Hornsby Middle School in reference to a bomb threat. A search of the school revealed no threats, though police and fire units remained on scene until school was dismissed.
An investigation led to the identification of the juvenile believed to have made the threat. During an interview with local authorities, he confessed to making the threat, Ryalls said. The boy is facing one count of threatening to bomb or do damage to a building by an offender under age 15.
He was arrested June 17 after the charges were certified by Williamsburg James City County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
