A Walmart Neighborhood Market will be opening next to Settlers Market in James City County in September.
Walmart bought property to build the store in 2008 and received approval for a 41,785-square-foot store from the county in March 2012.
Walmart Neighborhood Markets typically sell grocery items, household supplies, health and beauty products and pharmacy items.
“We are excited to provide our customers with convenient access to affordable healthy food options and pharmacy products … To more and more of our customers, living better means the ability to walk into a Walmart and find affordable foods that will help their families live healthier lives,” said a Walmart spokesperson in an emailed statement.
In addition to the Walmart Neighborhood Market, shoppers in the New Town area can purchase groceries at Fresh Market, Trader Joe’s, Target, Martin’s or online through Relay Foods, which has two weekly pickups in New Town.
Next to the future Walmart Neighborhood Market, construction is blazing forward on Settlers Market. The entire Settlers Market project, which includes townhomes as well as retail and dining, is expected to be completed by 2015. Two buildings on Casey Boulevard are currently under construction, with another three buildings planned for the complex.
