York County officials received a report Wednesday of a black bear sighted near Old Williamsburg Road in the Lackey area of the county.
The call reporting the bear came in shortly after 2 p.m., according to a county spokesperson. County officials believed it entered the county from Newport News near the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station.
A news release from the county said animal control officers responded to the area but were unable to locate the bear. If residents see a bear, they should stay away from the animal and call 911. The release said to not follow, attract, feed or antagonize the bear.
