Colonial Williamsburg is offering free Memorial Day weekend admission to active duty military, reservists, retirees, veterans and their families.
From Friday through Monday, the “Honoring Service to America” ticket campaign will allow admission to the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area, Revolutionary City, the Capitol and Governor’s Palace, the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum and Bassett Hall. The tickets include an orientation walk, which is a walking tour providing an overview of Colonial Williamsburg, free shuttle service to and from the Visitor Center, free parking at the Visitor Center and a viewing of the movie “Williamsburg, The Story of a Patriot.”
Service members do not need to be present; the tickets will be provided to dependent family members of currently deployed troops who provide identification. Military veterans who separated before retirement should bring a copy of their honorable discharge paperwork—DD Form 214—as identification.
The weekend-long tickets are available at the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center.
Free Public Memorial Day Program
At 10 a.m. Monday, a Memorial Day commemorative program will begin in the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg. Wreaths will be placed at the Palace, Bruton Parish Church and the French grave site in honor of those buried on or near the sites from the American Revolution and the War Between the States.
A procession with Fife and Drum support will begin at the Palace and proceed to each site. Prayers will be recited and volleys fired.
The Memorial Day service is free and open to the public.
