Fields to Leave Warhill, Return to Classroom

Dan Fields

Warhill High School will have a new principal next fall, as the current school leader has announced he’ll be stepping down and returning to the classroom.

Dan Fields, who began as Warhill’s interim principal in the fall of 2010 and was named to the post permanently in May 2011, made the decision based on family considerations, according to a division administrator. Fields announced Monday he’d step down at the end of the school year.

Fields joined Williamsburg James City Schools in 1986, working as a health and physical education teacher at Lafayette High School. While at Lafayette, Fields coached the school’s varsity and junior varsity football teams and the cross country and wrestling teams. Between 1992 and 2007, Fields twice served as Lafayette’s assistant principal and once for Jamestown High School from 1997-2003. He joined Warhill as assistant principal in 2007.

“I appreciate Dan’s years of service as principal of Warhill and am glad he will continue to be part of our school division as a teacher,” said WJCC Superintendent Steve Constantino.

The WJCC school where Fields will teach is yet to be determined, said Betsy Overkamp-Smith, the division’s director of public relations and engagement.

A job opening will be posted soon for the Warhill principal and the administration expects a new principal to be in place when the 2013-14 school year begins in September.
