WATA to Hold Public Hearings on Service Changes, Canceling Trolley

The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority will hold four public hearings on potential changes to its services following a funding shortfall.

Federal grants are expiring during the current fiscal year, which have led WATA to a need to adjust its services if more funding isn’t supplied by the Historic Triangle localities.

The WATA Board of Directors has said it wants to cancel trolley service to accommodate the lost grant funding.

The public hearings will be held at different locations in the area:

  • Noon-1 p.m. on Monday, May 6 at the College of William and Mary’s Miller Hall at 101 Ukrop Way
  • 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 at Legacy Hall at 5300 Palmer Lane, Suite 1A
  • Noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at WATA’s Store at the Williamsburg Outlet Mall at 6401 Richmond Road, Suite 60
  • 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at James River Community Center at 8901 Pocahontas Trail

For special accommodations/translation services, call 757-220-5547 at least 72 hours before the public hearing.

Public comment and questions can also be sent to Jamie Jackson’s attention at 7239 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185; made via phone at 757-220-5547; by email to [email protected]; by Twitter to @goWATA_VA or on Facebook.
