Roberts Furniture and Mattress opened Wednesday in a new location on Richmond Road in Williamsburg.
The Williamsburg store is the company’s fifth. Other locations are in Hampton, Newport News, Gloucester and Winchester.
“The right location came available and we thought it would be a good fit for our company so we decided to come out here,” Roberts said. “Williamsburg could always use another location to sell quality furniture at affordable prices.”
The stores all carry a full line of home furnishings including bedroom, living room and dining room furniture and mattresses. Broyhill has recently been added to the list of furniture manufactures the stores carry. Among other brands, it also carries Ashley Furniture, Vaughn Bassett, Standard Furniture, and Simmons and Serta mattresses.
Roberts Furniture and Mattress opened in 1997 as a revival of the 1960s family-owned company. Jay Roberts, company president, is the grandson of the original owner, Abe Bloxom, who opened a TV and electronics store on Kecoughtan Road in Hampton. It eventually transitioned into a furniture and mattress store. Roberts’ father, Jim Roberts, retired from the original company in 1986 but helped his son relaunch it in 1997. In 1999, Roberts’ sister Shari Stilley became involved in the company as well.
A grand opening celebration for the store is still in the planning stage, but the store is now open to customers.
Store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The store is located at 3032-1 Richmond Rd., between the Lenox Factory Outlet and Holiday Inn.
