Ten years after Tora Fisher was the sole survivor of a plane crash that killed her father, stepmother and four other people outside Boston, the singer-songwriter is touring in support of her debut album that is largely inspired by the crash and its aftermath.
“After my dad passed away when I was 13, that’s when the songwriting really sort of took a turn for me and start to really have substance,” Fisher said. “I mean it was like overnight. All of a sudden I had a lifetime worth of lyrics and ideas and things to write about. It just felt very authentic. From that point I’ve just been trying to develop and hone that skill.”
Fisher stopped by the Tide Studios on Friday to chat with 92.3FM The Tide’s Amanda Pearl, host of “Live and Local,” about her first full-length album “Spilling Over” and to perform one of her singles ahead of her concert that night at Brickhouse Tavern on Scotland Street in Williamsburg.
She performed an acoustic set for concertgoers last week, with Randy Runyon offering support on the guitar and with backup vocals. Runyon, who is also the lead singer and guitarist for the band Karma Exchange, has been working with Fisher to arrange her songs for her live performances to give each audience a different take on songs than what they’ve heard on the album. They have also written songs together that will be performed along the tour.
“We’re doing this stripped down, duo thing and that’s going to be different,” Fisher said. “Even the songs that are on the album, they just sound different when it’s just Randy and I.”
Fisher’s “Tora Tour,” which includes both acoustic and full-band performances, continues to grow. Follow her Facebook page to stay informed on additional dates.
