Preliminary work has begun, including some minor digging, for a James City Service Authority project to replace about 2,600 linear feet of water main along Jamestown Road.
In September 2012, JCSA advertised for bids to replace the pipes because they were reaching the end of their life cycle. The project was originally estimated to cost about $800,000 but came up with about a $673,000 price tag. The funds were appropriated in the fall of 2011 and came from JCSA’s Capital Improvements Budget.
The project runs along Jamestown Road from about the intersection of Ironbound and Jamestown Roads, and running to the intersection of Jamestown and Neck-O-Land roads. Lane closures will result periodically from construction. Because construction depends on weather and other factors, the timeline for lane closures is unclear.
Henry S. Branscome, LLC was contracted to execute replacement of the line. Larry Foster, general manager of JCSA, said the project could be completed by the end of June at the latest.
A veteran’s memorial at the intersection of Jamestown and Neck-O-Land Roads had been temporarily removed because of some excavation work that would have impaired the memorial. The memorial has been returned to its owner who will be able to replace it once the construction is completed, Foster said.
