York Supervisors to Host Next Budget Work Session Tonight
The York County Board of Supervisors will continue its discussion of the 2014 budget at 6 p.m. today with a work session at York Hall.
At their last work session Tuesday, the Supervisors focused on contributions to the school division and on alternate ways to generate revenue that would not require an increase in the real estate tax rate. County Supervisor James McReynolds’ proposed 2014 budget includes a 2.3 cent raise on that rate, which would come one year after the supervisors voted to raise the tax by 8.4 cents.
McReynolds presented the board with other methods of generating revenue at Tuesday’s meeting. He said the board has two options remaining that would generate enough revenue to be considered meaningful: the implementation of a stormwater fee and a utility tax.
The board still has about a month to finish ironing out the budget. To do this, they will continue to host work sessions throughout the month. A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 25 at York Hall.
At the work session, the supervisors will also consider a proposal to extend the county’s sewer system to a proposed development called Osborn Landing.
According to a memo from McReynolds, the county’s sewer has the capacity to handle the waste produced by Osborn’s Landing, a proposed 20.38 acre development that would feature 16 residential lots.
The connection fee would be $99,200. The developer would be required to install 1,721 feet of vacuum sewer main to connect to the county’s existing facilities.
