Williamsburg Notebook: Volunteer Firefighters Seeking Donations

If you’ve appreciated the work of volunteer firefighters in the city, now is your chance to show them. The Williamsburg Fire Department is conducting its Annual Fund Drive. Next week, the Board of Zoning Appeals will meet to consider a setback variance request.

Volunteer Fire Department Seeking Funds

The Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department is conducting its Annual Fund Drive from April 5 to May 10.

The WVFD is a nonprofit organization founded in 1754. The WVFD works with career firefighters and rescue personnel to provide emergency fire and ambulance services to Williamsburg residents, businesses and visitors.

In 2012, the volunteers contributed approximately 7,000 man-hours and $128,000 in equipment and supplies to the Williamsburg Fire Department.

WVFD members in full uniform will go door to door throughout the city distributing letters describing their goals. Their visits will be during the evenings and daylight hours of Saturdays. No telephone calls will be made in connection to the drive. All donations are tax-deductible.

BZA to Consider Setback Variance

The Williamsburg Board of Zoning Appeals will consider a request for a setback variance at its April 2 meeting.

Joseph Bartlett and Tracy Moore have applied for a variance from the zoning ordinance that requires 10-foot setbacks for side yards. They want to construct a home that encroaches approximately 5 feet into the setback at 511 ½ Henderson Street in Highland Park.

The board will meet at 4 p.m. April 2 in the third-floor conference room at the Williamsburg Municipal Building.
