Two people are in custody and charged with murder after a man’s body was found in a burning truck on an interstate off-ramp early Friday morning in York County.
Information from citizens helped lead the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division to two suspects, both of whom have been arrested, according to a news release Saturday morning from Lt. Dennis Ivey, Jr., of the sheriff’s office.
Hassan Harvey, a 34-year-old man whose last known address was in the 2800 block of Tidewater Drive in Norfolk, was arrested, along with Kasey Rubio, a 19-year-old woman who has lived in the 100 block of Florida Avenue in Portsmouth. Warrants have been obtained charging both suspects with first degree murder, abduction and arson.
Both suspects are being held by Norfolk Police.
The case started just after midnight Friday morning, when a York deputy noticed smoke rising near the 243B exit on westbound Interstate 64, which is an exit that leads to Busch Gardens. The deputy found a Mac Tools truck on fire, and after firefighters put out the fire they discovered the body of a man inside the truck.
Lieutenant Ivey said investigators determined the victim was 56-year-old Austin Steven King, a resident of Virginia Beach.
The Medical Examiner determined the victim died of blunt force trauma to the head, Ivey said.
