LONDONS closed its doors in Merchants Square last September, after two-and-a-half years in that location, and will reopen sometime in April in a new space at Courthouse Commons in James City County.
“We’re excited about our new Courthouse Commons store, that’s a unique little specialty center … The build out is just beautiful there. And the co-tenancy is just awesome there,” said LONDONS Retail Group President Mitch Diehl.
LONDONS is a “bathecary” with a home office in Gordonsville, about 18 miles northeast of Charlottesville. It’s been in business for 15 years and carries a variety of British and American bath products, home fragrances and women’s accessories. The new store in Courthouse Commons will offer a change in stock from the Merchants Square location, with 80 percent of its offerings British products, including Forever England oilcloth bags.
Diehl said the clientele they built in the old store may come to the new store looking for the same products but may not be able to find them. The new location will accommodate existing clients by ordering their items from the LONDONS warehouse, if requested, he said.
The change in focus to a majority of British products fits into the new theme: “Love LONDONS.”
“Our new company is so exciting; everybody in the office is abuzz,” Diehl said.
Diehl said the company chose Courthouse Commons for its Williamsburg location because of the diversity of shops in the center and proximity to The Fresh Market.
An opening date has not yet been chosen because of delays in construction. Diehl said the plan is to open the store sometime in April to give Mother’s Day shoppers time to prepare for the holiday.
A new website will be launched once the new Courthouse Commons store and another new store in Fredericksburg are opened. Until then, original website will continue to operate.
