A 36-year-old South Carolina man suspected in a 2001 rape and a 2002 attempted rape in Williamsburg appeared Thursday in Williamsburg-James City County District Court, where his case was continued to May 9.
Tyrone Lamont Holloway was extradited to Williamsburg after Philadelphia Police arrested him Dec. 23. Police did not receive the information they needed to identify Holloway until December.
He has been in custody at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail since his Jan. 9 extradition.
The two alleged victims are willing to testify, but could not make it to Thursday’s hearing. One lives in the Czech Republic and recently had a baby, so she is unable to make the flight. The other lives in California and had a scheduling conflict that made it impossible for her to travel in time.
Williamsburg-James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nate Green said the women have been cooperative. Green is also waiting for a lab to return DNA evidence that would link Holloway to the two incidents.
The continuance was granted by Judge Colleen Killilea despite objections from Holloway’s attorney, Patrick Kelley, who argued that Holloway had been in custody for more than two months already. He will remain in custody until at least the May 9 hearing.
Holloway is facing one abduction charge and one rape charge from September 2001, and one attempted abduction charge and one attempted rape charge from March 2002, according to a news release from the Williamsburg Police Department issued after Holloway’s extradition. Holloway was also charged with robbery for allegedly stealing jewelry from one of the victims.
Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department said the victims did not know their attacker.
