JCC Board of Supervisors Preview
The Board of Supervisors will meet for a work session and regular meeting at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, respectively, in Building F at 101 Mounts Bay Road.
At the work session, the board will discuss the timeline of the Jamestown Beach project prior to making a decision on rezoning and special use permit applications. Staff will also update the board on new Virginia Stormwater Management Regulations and the Virginia Stormwater Management Program.
The board decided at its Feb. 12 meeting to leave the public hearing on the Jamestown Beach project open but not to vote on the applications for the project until the March 12 meeting. The public hearing is not on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting.
The supervisors will vote on five items on the consent calendar:
- Minutes approval for the Feb. 12 meeting
- Grant acceptance of a $61,295 grant to the Fire Department from the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services for the purchase of training equipment for Advanced Life Support providers.
- Grant acceptance of a $57,378 grant to the Commonwealth Attorney to continue advocating for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. The grant included $28,372 from the State Department of Criminal Justice Services and a match of $29,006 from the county’s Commonwealth Attorney’s General Fund account.
- A resolution in support of a grant application for the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund. The program is new and is designed to encourage local governments to support agriculture- and forestry-based businesses. The county intends to apply for a $20,000 grant, which would require a match from the county. The supervisors discussed the grant at the last Economic Development Authority meeting where staff said $10,000 of the county’s match could be paid staff work time.
- A resolution to enroll in the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Urban Archery program. The program would allow people to hunt deer with bows and arrows, including crossbows, as a means of reducing the deer population and as hunting recreation. Participants in the program would be required to purchase an archery license and would only be able to hunt antlerless deer.
Following the consent calendar, the board has a closed session scheduled to discuss appointing people to the Historical Commission, the Colonial Community Criminal Justice Board and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The James City Service Authority Board of Directors is scheduled to meet Tuesday following the board meeting. As of Friday, the only agenda item for the JCSA was meeting minute approval from the Jan. 22 meeting.

JCC Recreation Center Gym and Track Closure
Repairs to the gym floor at the James City County Recreation Center began Feb. 18. The gym and walking track will be closed for approximately three weeks and are expected to reopen the week of March 11.
Repairs will include installing new flooring, sanding, line painting and floor finishing. The work area will be sealed to reduce fumes and dust from spreading throughout the center.
