Two candidates for the special election in James City County’s Jamestown District will square off at a debate Wednesday evening.
During last year’s redistricting, Democrat and Powhatan Supervisor Jim Icenhour was shifted into a newly redrawn Jamestown District. He and Republican challenger John Wright, both vying for the seat in a special election, will debate at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the James City County Library on Croaker Road. The League of Women Voters of the Williamsburg Area is hosting the event.
Wright currently serves as Chairman of New Town’s Residential Advisory Board. He worked for Newport News Shipbuilding for 34 years, beginning his career there as a financial analyst in 1976. A veteran of the United States Navy, Wright holds a degree in Business and Accounting from the University of South Carolina and a Masters in Business Administration from Old Dominion University.
Icenhour was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2005. He served as a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot from 1967 to 1987, and afterwards he was an airline pilot until 2005. Icenhour lives in Ford’s Colony.
