James City County Police have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a woman at knifepoint in a local campground.
Police say 41-year-old Ronald Dezego, Jr. entered the 29-year-old victim’s camper at the Carter’s Grove Campground on Pocahontas Trail Wednesday around 6 p.m. and raped the woman at knifepoint. The woman’s boyfriend and another man returned to the camper and rushed in as they heard the victim’s screams for help. Police said the men fought with Dezego before he escaped and ran into the woods.
Police arrested Dezego a few hours later when he returned to the campground, where he was living. Dezego did not know the victim, James City Police Major Steve Rubino said.
Dezego was charged with rape, forcible sodomy, burglary and abduction. He is being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
