WILLIAMSBURG— The city of Williamsburg will present plans for the next phases of the Ironbound Road corridor improvement project and gather public feedback during an information session June 16 at James Blair Middle School.
The meeting will cover phases two and three of the proposed upgrades along the corridor between Richmond Road and DePue Drive and will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
City staff and representatives from the design firm Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) will provide an overview of the project, answer questions and collect feedback from attendees. Display boards will show current design concepts for the corridor improvements.
The proposed improvements for the next two phases include adding a right-turn lane from Longhill Road to Richmond Road, widening Ironbound Road from Middle Street to DePue Drive, and creating a left-turn lane in the center with a travel lane on either side.
Additional improvements include constructing a multi-use path along the north side of the road to tie into the existing paths, upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of Treyburn Avenue and Ironbound Road and replacing the sidewalk along the south side.
Phase one of the improvements was completed in March 2019 and included reconfiguring the intersection at Ironbound and Longhill roads.
City officials say that the public can offer feedback on the designs for 10 days after the information session by emailing [email protected] or mailing comments to City Engineer Jamie Clark at 401 Lafayette St., Williamsburg, Va, 23185. The public comment period ends Friday, June 26.
