WILLIAMSBURG— On Saturday, March 7, Virginia Peninsula Community College held the first-ever Williamsburg ComiCon at its Historic Triangle campus.

Williamsburg ComiCon was the result of a partnership with local business owner and creator John Millington, owner of Jersey’s Comics and Cards shops in Williamsburg, Yorktown and Gloucester. Millington also operates Conquest Publishing, which is involved in many creative endeavors, including videos, comics and music.

Currently, VPCC is already talking about hosting another event next year and talking about how to improve it in the future.

The one-day of festivities saw 90+ vendors in attendance, who the college says reported positive sales and wanted to return in the future. Guest attendees such as the 501st and Rebel Legion also expressed the desire to expand their presence in the future.

The Cosplay contest also saw a number of attendees and was hosted by Avalon Lee, an award-winning cosplayer local to the area.

The event also saw 1350 people register for the con between online registration and registration on the day of the event. However, the college estimates the attendees were closer to 2,000, as children under the age of 18 were not required to register.
