WILLIAMSBURG — The 16th season of the 2nd Sundays Street Festival will be launched with a concert on Saturday, March 8, at the Kimball Theatre.
“Create. Collaborate. Unite.” — LoveLight Placemaking says its mission and vision are captured in these three words and have worked to inspire the arts community in Greater Williamsburg now for 16 years. The brainchild of Shirley Pierson Vermillion, 2nd Sundays Street Festival has grown to take up six blocks and over 180 artisans, four blocks of live music stages, food trucks, and much more.
“We couldn’t be more proud to kick off our 16th year of 2nd Sundays of incredible artisans and a full lineup of live musicians on March 9,” says Vermillion. “We’ll host including The Irish Drinking Band, Dara James and the Soul Disciples, The Love Cats, Ben Long, Carol Warren, and Dale Whitehead, and Donnaka (Dennis O’Riordan- originally from County Limerick, Ireland). LoveLight Placemaking said is delighted to add this Tribute Show to the kickoff weekend in Williamsburg.”
“Folks have been asking us for years when we’re going to bring the concerts back to the Kimball Theatre. My answer is always ‘We’ll see… our hands and calendar are quite full with planning and executing 10 massive 2nd Sundays Festivals each year and now 1st Sundays are full too!’ We’re so grateful that the Wilder Horses Band wanted to partner with us for this show,” she continued.
Wilder Horses is a 10-piece show band that covers Rolling Stones music across four decades of album releases. The show’s opening act is Liana Jones, another local musician, now living in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Also included is LIVE Painter and Pop Artist Todd Owens, who will be painting during the show. LoveLight Placemaking says the work will go home with some lucky winner at the end of the night.
This show takes place on Saturday, March 8, the night before the first 2nd Sundays Festival of the year. The organization expects a fun, energetic kickoff to the season of 2nd Sundays.
After 16 years, 2nd Sundays has also expanded into Charles City, partnering with Indian Fields Tavern and its on-site microbrewery, 5 Fields Brewing on the 1st Sunday of each month, showcasing more local artists and musicians throughout the area. Vermillion said she is passionate about supporting local creatives and makes sure that every event with the LoveLight Placemaking name attached is one of creativity, collaboration, and unity.
