RICHMOND — Dominion Energy announced on Thursday, Aug. 12 that it is currently accepting applications for its Environmental Grant program.

The program will give out $1.5 million towards environmental grants through the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. The program is meant to encourage nonprofit and educational organizations (including K-12 public and private schools) to apply for funding to help with environmental education and stewardship initiatives in communities served by Dominion Energy in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, West Virginia, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Connecticut, and other regions served by the company.

Starting in 2003, the foundation has donated $37 million towards these projects. Pink Space Theory (PST), based out of Prince William Co., Va., was a recent recipient of the grant. Dominion Energy states that PTS “teaches underserved girls science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) concepts by building wind turbines.”

“This was huge for our girls! This program is vital because there continues to be a lack of women in STEAM careers across our country,” stated Monica Nichols, executive director and president of PTS. “Exposing these middle school girls to an experience such as this will help them see the long-term value of STEAM, plus it gives them that competitive edge!”

Grant requests will be considered if they meet the following priorities:

  • Working towards improving open spaces
  • Focus on making nature accessible
  • Educate K-12 students as well as the public regarding environmental science
  • Protection and preservation of natural habitats

Application deadline is Sept. 30. For more information and to apply, visit the website for the Environmental Grant program.
