Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation staff, volunteers honored for achievement, service

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the state agency that administers Jamestown Settlement and American Revolution Museum at Yorktown living-history museums, recognized 33 employees for reaching service milestones and 133 individuals for commitment to the Foundation’s volunteer program at an event held June 14. The Foundation also presented merit awards to four employees for outstanding service in 2017.

Museum Interpretive Program Manager Homer Lanier of Gloucester was honored as 2017 Gold Employee of the Year. Communications Manager Jennifer Daley of Williamsburg received the 2017 Silver Employee of the Year. The 2017 Gold Customer Service Award was presented to Landscape & Nutrient Grounds Specialist Bain Schultz of Williamsburg, and Executive Office Manager Lisa Lucas of Williamsburg received the 2017 Silver Customer Service Award.

Fifteen full-time employees were recognized for achieving state service milestones during the past year. Senior Curator Thomas E. Davidson and Maritime Program Manager Eric A. Speth, both of Williamsburg, each were honored for 30 years of state service. A twenty-year service award was presented to Outreach Education Instructor Dirk T. Prince of Williamsburg.

Fifteen-year service awards were presented to Grounds Supervisor Michael J. Enz III of Gloucester; and Curatorial Registrar Jane M. Hohensee and Museum Interpretive Supervisor Jamie L. Lavin, both of Williamsburg. Four full-time employees were recognized for 10 years of service: Housekeeper Missy Hill, Fiscal Technician Kimberly Oxley of Gloucester, Historical Clothing Manager Christopher Daley and Museum Historical Interpreter Carol Wiers, all of Williamsburg. Five full- time employees also received five-year service awards.

Three individuals received awards for 20 years of part-time service to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation: Museum Program Assistant Andrea P. Richardson, Special Events Coordinator Kim M. Scholpp and Museum Historical Interpreter Anastasia Triantafillos, all of Williamsburg. Museum Program Assistant John W. Zwerg of Williamsburg received a 15-year service award for part-time service.

Staff recognition program

Six part-time employees were recognized for 10-year milestones: Museum Educator Randolph Flood of Williamsburg, Gift Shop Clerk Minda Hagon of Surry, Museum Historical Interpreter Kelly Lowry of Williamsburg, Warehouse Specialist Dennis McCullough of Williamsburg, Museum Historical Interpreter Kathryn Ubben of Yorktown and Telefunder Ellen Waite of Williamsburg. Eight part-time employees also received awards for five years of service.

A total of 133 volunteers who contributed more than 100 hours of service in 2017, including 72 who reached cumulative service milestones, were recognized.

Among them were Doug Lindeman of New Bern, N.C., for attaining 12,500 hours of cumulative service; John Robinson of Hampton for 10,500 hours; James Magill Jr. of Williamsburg and for 10,000 hours; Jake Kirchner of Williamsburg for 8,000 hours; Dick Turner of Williamsburg and Bob Nichols of Yorktown for 7,500 hours; Dennis Dicus of Yorktown for 6,500 hours; and Carol Bohlman of Williamsburg and Frank Ruiz of Newport News for 6,000 hours. In addition, Fred Blystone and Chuck Reusing, both of Williamsburg, were honored for 5,500 hours; Karen Peifer and Steven Link, both of Williamsburg, for 5,000 hours.

Serving in all facets of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s operation, from greeting museum visitors and supporting administrative operations to serving as crew on the Jamestown Settlement ships, a total of 1,571 core and special event volunteers provided 64,738 hours of service in 2017.
