Sound too good to be true for a primary care practice? Not if you are talking about Riverside’s Primary Care Center located inside the WISC.
Riverside Primary Care Center offers treatment for children (age 2-plus), young athletes and adults of all ages by two caring and attentive nurse practitioners (Kimberly Maigi, F.N.P. and Ashlea Austin, F.N.P.) who are board-certified in family medicine.
Located in the heart of Williamsburg, and just steps from the surrounding athletic fields, Riverside’s Primary Care Center is open to the public and provides comprehensive care services in an environment that’s conducive to today’s busy lifestyles. Not feeling well? Have a sports injury? Need a physical or immunization? Just stop on in.
The Center is part of Riverside Medical Group, a network of more than 300 doctors. You can expect timely appointments, online access to our office, fast referrals and coordinated care with Riverside specialists.
“Hundreds, if not thousands, of people come in and out of the [sports complex] on a daily basis,” said Kim Maigi, an American Academy of Nurse Practitioners certified nurse practitioner with 12 years of medical experience. “That is one of the reasons for opening the facility at the WISC, to try to provide convenient services for all of these people.”
Ashlea Austin, who is also board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, says people are surprised when they visit the facility. “When people stop in they discover all of the services we offer and realize how convenient it is, they are thrilled,” said Austin, who has been in the medical field for six years. “We have medications we can administer to treat a number of issues. We can test for strep, the flu and mono. We have a nebulizer (a device that changes liquid medicine into a fine mist. You then breathe in the mist through a mouthpiece or a mask), we can perform EKGs and more. We really do have the capability to operate as a full service primary care practice.”
“Our facility accommodates people in a variety of ways,” explained Maigi. “We take appointments, have walk-in ability for urgent type needs and we provide consultation and give recommendations about diet, weight and blood pressure control. We focus on offering personal attention with a strong focus on the patient — it’s the Riverside mission: ‘To care for others as we would care for those we love.’ ”
“There’s another thing that sets us apart,” said Austin. “The WISC runs a before and after-school daycare. Kim is here early and I usually stay late, so parents with or without their child can stop to get what they need. We also offer lunch time hours between 12-1 p.m.”
“Ultimately,” said Maigi, “we not only want to treat individuals who are ill, but we want to help individuals and their families become healthy through personal and convenient care. Combined, we provide the personal compassion derived from our nursing careers and the expertise that comes from years of experience in the medical field.”
