The Sinfonicron Light Opera Company will be taking to the main stage of Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall this weekend to put on a production of Kiss Me, Kate.
The company, which represents a partnership between four College of William & Mary student groups – Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Delta Omicron music fraternity, Nu Kappa Epsilon music sorority and the Theatre Student Association – has been dedicated to supporting arts in the community for more than 50 years.
This uproarious musical based around Shakespeare’s enduring classic The Taming of the Shrew tells the tale of an ex-husband and wife cast opposite one another in a production of the Bard’s play and the folly that ensues.
Throw a group of gangsters trying to collect on some mistaken debts into the mix and the show is off and running on a wild and chaotic romp that is “sure to be a delight for musical theater lovers of all ages,” according to a recent press release.
Kiss Me, Kate, with book by husband-and-wife duo Samuel and Bella Spewack and music and lyrics by the legendary Cole Porter, won the inaugural Tony Award for best musical in 1949 and ran for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway.
The show will be performed at 8 p.m. Jan. 21, 22 and 23 and at 2 p.m. Jan. 23 and 24.
