Historian Explores Events that Shaped a Nation

This fall, author and historian Tony Williams provides insight on both historic social beginnings as well as America’s political beginnings in presentations this September, October and November at WILLIAMSBURG Booksellers and DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum.  Click here to purchase the book.

  • Friday, Sept. 21 – “America’s Beginnings: The Dramatic Events That Shaped a Nation’s Character.” Williams greets guests and signs copies of his books from 3 – 5 p.m. at WILLIAMSBURG Booksellers, 101-A Visitor Center Dr., in the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center. He will discuss the book in the Visitor Center West Theater at 5:30 p.m.  All of his books will be available and include “Hurricane of Independence” ($15.95 paperback and $22.95 hardback), “The Pox and the Covenant” ($15.99 paperback and $24.99 hardback), “The Jamestown Experiment” ($15.99 paperback and hardback) and “America’s Beginnings” ($16.95 hardback).
  • Saturday, Oct. 13 – “The Pox and the Covenant: The Epidemic that Altered America’s Destiny.” Guests learn about a dramatic smallpox epidemic that raged through Boston in 1721, killed many and tore apart the social fabric at its seams. Williams relates the gripping details from his book about the epidemic and the innovative discovery of inoculation that saved lives but set up a furious debate over science and religion. This event will be held at 3 p.m. at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, 326 W. Francis St. Williamsburg. Copies of the books are available in the Museum Store, and a book signing follows.
  • Saturday, Nov. 3 – “America’s Beginnings: Elections.” Williams provides an entertaining and informative description of 50 key events – some known and some forgotten – that shaped colonial and revolutionary America, from the Mayflower Compact to the Annapolis Convention at 3 p.m. at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum. Copies of the books are available in the Museum Store, and a book signing follows.  Click here for a full list of lectures as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum.
