Man Dies in House Fire in First Colony Subdivision of James City County

A man died after a fire at a home in the First Colony subdivision Wednesday evening. (James City County)

JAMES CITY COUNTY — A man died after a fire at a home in the 100 block of Jordan’s Journey in the First Colony subdivision Wednesday evening.

According to officials, units from the James City County Fire Department responded to the residential structure fire Jan. 21 at 7:16 p.m. The Peninsula Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting fire showing from the rear of the home.

Crews arrived to find significant fire showing from two sides of the residence, officials said. Due to fire conditions, an exterior attack was initiated before firefighters entered to complete a search. A male victim was located inside and determined to be deceased at the scene, fire officials said.

The fire was brought under control at 8:15 p.m. after causing significant fire damage throughout the home.

James City County Police assisted on scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the James City County Fire Marshal’s Office.
