TABB — The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety battled a commercial structure fire at the Eagles Laundry in the Yorkshire Downs Shopping Center in the Tabb area of York County Saturday afternoon.

According to officials, personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety were dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire in the 3300 block of Hampton Highway at approximately 5:40 p.m. this afternoon. The location is a shopping center housing a variety of stores, including the laundromat, which occupies three storefronts.

Langley AFB Fire Department was first to arrive on scene and encountered flames and heavy smoke in a portion of the laundromat not generally utilized by the public, according to fire officials. Additional apparatus soon arrived, and the fire was brought under control. Once the fire was out, crews began to overhaul the facility to prevent reignition by ensuring there were no hidden embers or fire in the walls and ceilings.

As a standard safety precaution, the building’s power and natural gas supplies were disconnected, officials said.

In addition to fire and smoke damage to that portion of the laundromat, the two storefronts comprising the public laundromat and a vacant storefront on the other side sustained minor smoke damage, fire officials said.

There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.
